It was actually one of my favourite authors, Stephen Lawhead, that brought my attention to the new Robin Hood remake destined to hit screens this year. With Hood being one of my all time favourite “outlaws”, I quickly searched the trailer on-line and found out that this new rendition is amping to go this summer (in America, anyway) with none other than Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett as the stars.
Hm.
When you hear, or see, Russell Crowe what do you immediately think of? Personally, I can’t get his characters in Master and Commander, A Beautiful Mind and not to mention Gladiator out of my head, nor put aside the fact that he seems rather old to be cast as Robin.
As for Cate Blanchett, Galadriel from The Lord of the Rings instantly comes to mind along with her character portrayal in Finding Neverland. She also seems like quite an old rendition of Maid Marian. Perhaps Crowe and Blanchett will balance each other out in terms of age. Perhaps.
Now, I realise that with almost any movie you watch you can’t help but recognise at least one of the characters from another movie, but I do think they could have chosen lesser known people for this film. Some actors are just too well-known.
However, regardless of all that, I think the movie still looks to be a good one judging by the trailer. But what’s with the floppy shield at 39 seconds? Did they make them out of Indian rubber back then?
