Waterfall of Death

By in Bizaare, Shocking

It was with considerable shock and tremendous sadness that I read the on-line local newspaper last night which told of Robert Fox after he leaped to his death from the top of the Wairua Falls on New Year’s Day . . . The very same falls I jumped from the day before.

As you can read about here and here, Robert appeared to stumble and lose his footing as he jumped, so that even though he launched feet first, he was already at a disadvantage and his head drifted forward causing him to hit the water face-first. His cousins jumped in to try and rescue him but could not reach him and his body remained in the water until a police dive squad arrived from Wellington the next day. His body had to be pulled from the bottom of a 7m-deep pool.

All I can think of is A, how his friends must feel right now. If they egged him to jump (or even if they didn’t) then that memory of his impact in the water accompanied by the secret fear of wondering if they are responsible for his death will probably plague them for a very, very long time. B His poor family having that memory resurface on the first day of every new year. And C, was Robert ready to pass from this world?

If life can be so easily snatched away like that, then I have but one conclusion to draw. Make sure you consider the moment when you will leave your friends, family, the entire world and face your Creator.

It’s worth considering.
