I’m safe here, except…

By in Everything is Spiritual, Thought-provoked, Writing

Sometimes I am my own biggest source of frustration. I’ll start out with something — I don’t know, maybe a choice of grammar, a particular way of designing something, a musical chord progression, a perfectly viable attitude or way of thinking — and be perfectly happy with it . . . for a minute. Then comes the overwhelming chaos period: rewrite, rethink, second-guess, double-take, screw-up, throw-away, rewrite take two, take three, four, ten.

And then — and this is the bit that either makes me smile or gives me bald spots, depending on the day — I’ll stumble back to the original idea or whatever it was I started out with, and think, now that looks/sounds really cool. I like it!

It’s like coming full circle on yourself, going back to square one, or, in plain speaking, a complete waste of time.

Or is it?

Often, perhaps always, we tend to take a similarly long-winded way of getting to the Father-heart of God, exhausting every option until finally realising how pointless it all was — how futile — and that right here . . . right here in His embrace, we’re safe.

You might think it a complete waste of time and that God is a little odd for striving with such fickle human-beings. To the latter I would smile; but to the former I would say that only once every other distraction, stumbling-block or possible alternative is exhausted from our minds can we, and do we, appreciate the full enormity and overwhelming flood of God’s love.

It’s only once that human effort completely drains and disappoints us that we realise we were safe right here all along.

Oh, how He loves us.
